The University of Colorado is governed by an elected Board of Regents, which has created certain documents to define its work and for the governance of the University.  The primary documents are the Laws of the Regents.  In their meetings, the Board of Regents often adopts Regent Policies, which further define, extend, or implement the Laws.

Certain Regent Laws or Policies and some actions the Regents take during their meetings direct the University President to issue administrative policies to implement specific aspects of Regents Laws or Regents Policies.  These system Administrative Policy Statements apply to all four campuses and to CU System administration.  A system Administrative Policy Statement may direct the campuses to adopt their own campus-specific policy on a particular matter.

In the Laws of the Regents, Article 3.B.6(A), the Board defines the Chancellors as the chief academic and administrative officers responsible to the President for each campus.  Administrative Policy Statement, Delegation of Authority to Chancellors to Adopt or Approve Campus By-Laws, Rules, Regulations and Guidelines,  provides delegation from the President to campus chancellors authority to create governing policies for their campuses  These campus policies are provided herein as a resource to departments needing information on applicatible policies, procedures and rules.
